What Is AODA?

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) became law in 2005 with the goal of making Ontario fully accessible by 2025. It applies to all public and private sector organisations in Ontario with one or more employees — including businesses, nonprofits, and government bodies.

The Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) under AODA requires websites and web content to conform to WCAG 2.0 Level AA. Non-compliance can result in significant fines — up to $100,000 per day for corporations.

  • Jan 2014 New public websites: WCAG 2.0 Level A
  • Jan 2021 All websites and content: WCAG 2.0 Level AA
